Hudson – Doris E. (Potter) Stirlen, 99, of Hudson, passed away peacefully at home May 2, 2019, following a period of declining health.

She was born in Camden, N.J., the daughter of the late George B. Potter and Mabel B. (Larsen) Potter and lived most of her early life in Stone Harbor, N.J.  She was a graduate of the Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Wilmington, Del., with the class of 1941, and practiced there briefly, until leaving to raise her family. She was the wife of 49 years of William L. Stirlen, who died in 1991, and had lived in Hudson for the past 25 years.

She was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Worcester, a 21-year volunteer at Marlborough Hospital, and a member of the Hudson Senior Center, where she was active in the weekly line-dancing program.  She enjoyed baking, reading, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Elaine S. Fecteau of Hudson, Thomas P. Stirlen of Hudson, with whom she made her home, Eugene D. Stirlen and his wife Karen of Colchester, Conn., and Lynn S. McDonald and her husband Michael of Graniteville, S.C.; her son-in-law, Robert S. Veith, and his wife Rose of Marlborough; a daughter-in-law, Mary P. Stirlen, of Arlington Heights, Il.; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased, in 1999 by her daughter, Lucinda S. Veith, and by her son, William L. Stirlen Jr., in 2014.

Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, Inc., 50 Central St., Hudson, is in charge of arrangements. Calling hours at the funeral home are scheduled for Saturday, May 11, from 4-6 p.m. There are no services.  Interment in Cape May Courthouse, New Jersey, will follow at a later date, at the convenience of the family.
