Marlborough – Funky Murphy’s recently held an event to benefit the Shawna Jean Larassa Memorial Scholarship Fund.
The event was led by employee, Gina Anello O’Toole and Shawna’s father, George Larassa.
Shawna died tragically in 2009 from injuries suffered in an automobile accident. Since that time, Larassa has held a variety of fundraisers, including a motorcycle ride. Through these events, he has raised over $100,000 for the scholarship fund over the years.
Larassa said he enjoys helping students with funds so that they may buy the necessary supplies and books needed for their education and work towards being able to live their dreams.
The event at Funky Murphy’s featured a bar bingo game with raffles and prizes. Attendees helped to raise over $6,270 for the fund.
During the event, Larassa gave one student $1,000 and another $5,000. But he is not done yet. He said he will be surprising some other unsuspecting students this summer with scholarship funds.
