Northborough – Twelve years ago, after more than 30 years of practicing medicine, Dr. Jean Casello realized her life’s passion: medical aesthetics. However, when she set out to travel across the country to learn about the field, there was little to no formal training available. She took it upon herself to identify plastic surgeons and other physicians who were performing the procedures she wanted to learn and shadowed them during one-on-one sessions.

Upon her return home five years later, she established RenovoMD, a medical aesthetics practice in Shrewsbury. Dr. Casello relocated the practice to Northborough in 2011.

So, what exactly is medical aesthetics? Think cosmetic medicine. According to the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine, medical aesthetics “comprises all medical procedures that are aimed at improving the physical appearance and satisfaction of the patient, using non-invasive to minimally invasive cosmetic procedures.”

RenovoMD’s services range from injectables like Botox, Juvederm and other fillers; laser hair removal and skin resurfacing; chemical peels; medical grade facials; acne treatment; and more.

CoolSculpting is one of the more popular services among RenovoMD’s patients. In fact, according to Rob Deters, RenovoMD’s director of business development, Dr. Casello was among the first medical aesthetic practices to offer the non-invasive fat loss procedure that delivers permanent results.

While offers of injectables and fat loss treatments seem to be ubiquitous, Dr. Casello’s expertise sets RenovoMD apart from other providers.

“Dr. Casello performs 90 percent of the in-office procedures. Her knowledge and expertise, coupled with her previous medical experience, enables her to develop an effective, individualized treatment plan for each client,” said Deters.

The team is “small but mighty,” according to Deters. It consists of Dr. Casello, an office manager who has been with the practice since the beginning; one part-time and one full-time aesthetician; and Deters.

“We pride ourselves on being a boutique practice for folks looking for that extra level of professionalism,” Deters added.

How does Dr. Casello measure her success? In longevity.

“We survived in an emerging industry through a recession. She’s a pioneer,” Deters said. “She is a true artist with a needle for injectables. Facial contouring is as much of an art as it is a science.”

What about those who might be dubious about medical aesthetics? Rest assured that Dr. Casello really gets to know her clients: their needs, their wants, their goals. A comprehensive care plan follows.

“We like to go with the natural look that’s only slightly enhanced. Dr. Casello sets realistic expectations. We want you to leave here looking like yourself, but a slightly improved version,” said Deters.

“Everyone is unique, and they have unique challenges. I enjoy meeting those challenges while helping our patients feel good about themselves,” said Dr. Casello.

Today, Dr. Casello is a fellow of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and the Massachusetts Medical Society. She constantly trains to advance her technical skills and to evolve RenovoMD.

“She never stops,” said Deters.

What’s next for this trailblazer? Dermal infusion. The treatment is delivered by a machine that uses pressure and suction to infuse products with a variety of serums that go deep into the skin’s layers. It exfoliates, extracts and infuses simultaneously. The service is expected to launch mid-May.

Deters said that RenovoMD also uses PiQo4, a tattoo removal machine that also addresses a wide variety of skin conditions.

RenovoMD is located at 96 West Main Street, Northborough. For additional information, visit www.renovomd.com or call 508-393-6398.
