Shrewsbury – The Trustees of the Shrewsbury Public Library have announced the completion of the 2019 Sunday Library Season. Thanks to the contributions of generous individuals, businesses and civic groups, library users were able to enjoy a full season of Sunday hours from October 7, 2018 to May 19, 2019. Twenty three donors provided over $20,000 in sponsorships, assuring library service from 1 – 5 p.m. each Sunday during the eight-month period. During those 31 afternoons, users enjoyed close to 22,000 visits and borrowed over 26,000 items.
Board of Library Trustees Chair Clare O’Connor commented, “Sundays are one of our busiest days of the week at SPL, especially in the cold winter months. People of all ages enjoy the chance to get out, meet with others, and have an enjoyable and constructive day.”
Library Director Ellen Dolan noted the generosity of donors.
“It’s so incredible to see individuals, civic groups and businesses provide this gift to others in the community,” she said. “Having the library open on Sundays is a gift that is enjoyed by many people from across the community.”
The following sponsors provided funding for the 2019 season: Southgate at Shrewsbury funded five Sundays; Dr. B. Dale and Mrs. Melanie Magee funded three Sundays. Three donors funded two Sundays each, including Daniels Insurance Agency, Dean Park Grill and Pizza and the Olive I. and Anthony A. Borgatti Jr. Donor Advised Fund of the Greater Worcester Community Foundation. The following sponsors each funded one Sunday: Jeannine and Ron Boulanger in memory of Nicole Boulanger, Maureen Fujimori in honor of fabulous librarians Bonnie O’Brien and Polly Hess, an anonymous donor in Memory of John J. Morrissey, an anonymous donor in memory of Harry Der Harootunian, Carmella Heedles in memory of James A. Heedles, Jay Somers in loving memory of Buckie Somers, Zak and Susan Cramer in honor of Natalie and Allen Cramer, the Shrewsbury Garden Club in honor of Earth Day, the Shrewsbury Education Association, the Rotary Club of Shrewsbury, Central One Federal Credit Union, The Bachini Family, Olivia, Peg and Don Harbert, Selectman John Lebeaux, Joan Barry, David & Kathleen Rocheleau, and Pat Silvestri in Memory of Elizabeth Woodring.
The Board of Trustees plans to offer the sponsorships program during the 2019/2020 Sunday season, which will run from October 6, 2019 through May 24, 2020. The cost is $700 per Sunday, but sponsorships received before October 1, 2019 are $650.
