Shrewsbury – Dogs and Frisbees go together like peas and carrots. On June 24, Mike Piazza and his four Border Collies performed for a delighted crowd at the Oak Middle School Athletic Field.
The free event was sponsored by the Shrewsbury Parks & Recreation Department.
Lisa Sundeen, camp counselor with the department, said Piazza comes out every year with his dogs who perform a number of tricks with a Frisbee. She added the department is happy to provide this event for the families of Shrewsbury.
Piazza noted, in his opening remarks, that his dogs were related as they are cousins. Border Collies are perfect for jumping and catching Frisbees because of their long snouts, he added.
With over 15 years of experience, Piazza is the number one K-9 Frisbee performer in the world and only local professional. He performs about 150 shows per year which include sporting events (professional and collegiate level,) fairs, corporate events, pet expos and day camps. He has also appeared on Animal Planet and on magazine covers and in television commercials.
