Shrewsbury girl wins bronze in international Taekwondo tournament

Shrewsbury – Anika Sukthankar of Shrewsbury recently won the bronze medal at the International PanAm Cadet & Junior Poomsae Championships held in Portland, Ore.  Anika is a third degree black belt in Taekwondo and a student at the US Taekwondo Center in Shrewsbury headed by Grandmaster JH Jeong.

“We are very proud of Anika’s accomplishment at this prestigious international Taekwondo competition,” said Jeong. “Perfecting Poomsae, which stands for forms, requires tremendous focus and discipline and a lot of practice.”

Jeong is the founder of the US Taekwondo Center with locations in Shrewsbury and Worcester. He is a five time Korean National Champion and is an 8th Degree (WTF) Black Belt. He is president of the New England Tae Kwon Do Association, and has been part of coaching many athletes on a National and International level.
