John C. SeekampMarlborough – John C. Seekamp, 66, of Marlborough, died peacefully, surrounded by family, Aug. 2, 2019 at Boston Medical Center, following complications from Multiple Sclerosis.

John was the son of the late George H. and Sally M. (Dzwonkowski) Seekamp and was born and raised on Long Island in Huntington, N.Y. He attended C.W. Post College where he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Applied Mathematics.

Upon graduation, he moved to Massachusetts to work for Raytheon and then later, The MITRE Corporation. While working at MITRE, he began adjunct teaching at local colleges such as Bentley University, Framingham State College, Middlesex Community College and found that he had a passion for teaching. He eventually took a full-time position teaching Mathematics at Massachusetts Bay Community College where he proudly tenured for 22 years. John was a very patient and effective educator who was very well liked and respected by his students and prided himself on reaching students who deeply struggled with the subject matter.

While John’s family may not have shared his love for Math, they shared their love for him as the kind, loving, supportive, and adventurous father and husband he was. He would never pass up an opportunity to engage in a slightly dangerous, yet thrilling activity, such as hang gliding, parasailing, hot air ballooning, extreme roller coasters, and always talked about wanting to go parachuting (that one was vetoed). He and his family also enjoyed partaking in less adrenaline producing activities like hiking and cycling in the Green Mountains of Vermont and hanging out on his sister’s lake swimming, rafting, and fishing in upstate New York. He also loved a good snowball fight and was a master snowman builder and snow fort maker.

Unfortunately, his Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis at age 33 slowly took over his ability to do many of these things he loved. Though, with the love and support of his family, he persevered and never stopped fighting.

John is survived by his former wife, Karen Seekamp of Marlborough; his son, Paul Seekamp and his wife Amy of Franklin; his daughter, Laura Wood and her husband Michael of Clinton; his brother, George Seekamp of Jensen Beach, Fla.;. and his sister, Sandra Seekamp of Pawling, NY. He is also survived by his grandchildren, whom he adored, Camden, Brooke and Emma, and his niece, Kathleen.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, from 1-2 p.m., at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough, followed by a service at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Burial will be held at a later date on Long Island, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society at 101A 1st Ave. in Waltham, MA 02451 or to N.E.A.D.S. at P.O. Box 1100 in Princeton, MA 01541.
