Woonsocket, R.I. – Diane M. Franchi, 77, a quiet, simple soul from Woonsocket, R.I., formerly of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully Aug. 13, 2019.

Born April 20, 1942 in Worcester, Diane was one of four children of Edward and Christine (Lapriore) Franchi. She was raised in Shrewsbury, went to Venerini Academy and graduated from Worcester’s David Hale Fanning Trade school where she focused as a seamstress. Diane then believed for her entire life, that helping people was Diane’s devotion.  She cherished her career in serving the public, in the Worcester area, on Cape Cod and in Providence Rhode Island before retiring. She never forgot her roots in Shrewsbury.

Diane is survived by her sisters, Tina M. Franchi and Michele Franchi, both of Shrewsbury, and many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Besides her parents, her brother, Robert T. Franchi Sr., passed away in 2012.

Diane was a modest person who cherished the simple pleasures of life. playing the piano, listening to classical music, crochet and sewing. Many of the articles she crafted she gave to those in need. Throughout Diane’s life, she faced many challenges, her unwavering faith kept her grounded, guiding her through those life’s challenges. Diane’s passing leaves a hole in our hearts, but her loving and caring soul will never be forgotten.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend calling hours Monday, Aug. 19, from 4-6 p.m., in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester, followed by a prayer service at 6 pm. Burial alongside her parents will be private. The family requests that flowers be omitted.

The Franchi family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the Woonsocket Health and Rehabilitation Center for the care, comfort and compassion they gave to her during a difficult time.
