Eleni GavrosHudson – Eleni “Helen” (Pappas) Gavros, 73, of Hudson, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, Sept. 18, 2019 after a period of declining health. She leaves her beloved husband of 48 years, Sotirios G. Gavros.

Helen was born Nov. 5, 1945 in Vassara, Lakonia, Greece, a daughter of the late Chris and Panagiota (Kosmas) Pappas. She was raised in Greece, eventually immigrating to Quincy in 1969 and shortly after she married the love of her life, Sotirios G. Gavros,in 1971. They lived in Quincy for 31 years before relocating to Hudson where they have resided for the past 17 years. Helen was a talented seamstress and worked for many years at Brite Kleen Cleaners in Hudson.

Helen was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother, who cherish spending time with her family. She enjoyed baking, playing cards and going to church. She was always happy and optimistic. She fought colon cancer for eight years with phenomenal strength and courage.

In addition to her beloved husband, she is also survived by her daughter, Maria Markonidis and her husband Dimitri of Hudson; her son, George S. Gavros and his wife Dr. Dora Gavros of Tiburon, Calif.; a brother, Peter Pappas and his wife Maria; a sister, Argiro Spiropoulos; her sister-in-law, Dimitra Pappas; five grandchildren, Daphne, Zoe, Lefty, Sam and Elena; and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brother, George Pappas.

Relatives and friends are invited to a period of calling hours Saturday, Sept. 21, from 9-10 a.m., at St. Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church, 9 Central St., Marlborough, immediately followed by a 10 a.m. funeral service. A funeral cortege will process from the church to Forestvale Cemetery in Hudson for interment.
