Marlborough – John T. “Jack” Doherty, of Marlborough, long-time resident of Waltham, passed away unexpectedly Sept. 27, 2019. He was the much-loved husband of Joanne (Jameson) Doherty. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last January.
In addition to his spouse, he is survived by two loving daughters and their partners, Jamie A. Doherty and Daryn Ostresh, along with Lynne M. Doherty and Michael Barisano, all of Marlborough. He was the doting “Grampy” of Rylie E. Barisano. She was the light of his life.
Jack grew up in Somerville the only son of John T. Doherty Sr. and Catherine (McCarthy) Doherty. He is survived by two sisters, Sr. Jeanne Marie Doherty CSJ of Milton and Catherine Bent of Rockland. He also leaves two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Glenn and Donna Sauer of Summerfield, Fla. and David and Mary-Ellen Welch of Newton. He was an uncle to many nieces and nephews living around the country. Jack was also brother to his late beloved sister, Anne (Doherty) McCarthy and her husband Francis McCarthy of West Roxbury, and brother-in-law Robert Bent of Rockland.
He was an Electrical Engineer employed for 42 years with Boston Edison/Nstar Companies. He proudly served in the U.S. Naval Reserve Program for eight years.
Jack was a member of the Waltham Lions Club and sat on its Executive Board. During the period he received the Lions’ most prestigious award, “Lion of the Year,” along with many others.
His family was his love and life, but golf was his passion. He was a member of the Sandy Burr Inner Circle, Wayland and Millwood Farms Tuesday League in Framingham.
Jack was our warrior. He spent the last eight plus years fighting Parkinson’s with grace, humor and courage.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Oct. 1, from 4-7 p.m., at the Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central St., Hudson. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 9 a.m., in St. Michael’s Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson.
