Region – In just a few days children throughout the region will take to the streets to celebrate Halloween. And while there are apt to be many costumed ghosts, witches and other scary creatures, one of the most frightening things may be the mosquitoes, possibly carrying the dangerous EEE virus.
Local Boards of Health are recommending that parents take precautions with their kids, ensuring that they wear protective clothing and use mosquito repellent. They should also try to limit the amount of time they are outdoors after dusk.
Although it has been chillier lately, there is still a risk of EEE until there is a hard frost (temperatures below 32 degrees for 4 hours or longer).
