James M. HopkinsShrewsbury – James M. “Jim” Hopkins, 77, of Shrewsbury and formerly of Clinton, died peacefully on Saturday October 26, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Worcester and raised in Clinton, Jim was the son of the late James A. and Rita M. (Kilcoyne) Hopkins, both of Clinton. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1959, going on to attend Worcester Junior College and Suffolk College.

Jim had an extensive career in the wire and cable industry, most recently working as General Manager at ComTram Corporation in Whitinsville, from which he retired in 2004. He previously worked as Vice President of Phalo/Belden in Shrewsbury, President of Astro Wire & Cable Corporation in Worcester, President of Draka Intercable Companies in Franklin, and President/CEO of Conductivity Technologies in Leominster.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia E. (Jones) Hopkins, with whom he shared 52 wonderful years of marriage; his son, Michael J. Hopkins and his fiancée Shannon Walsh of Shrewsbury, and his daughter, Susan E. Hopkins and her companion Christopher Hebhardt, of Worcester; his granddaughters, Kiley Hopkins of Shrewsbury and Elizabeth Hopkins of Worcester. He is also survived by his sister, Donna M. Mona and her husband Michael of Marlborough, his niece, Jennifer Garofalo and her husband Dave of Medway, and his grandnieces, Maia and Maeve.

Jim was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Parish in Shrewsbury, and was a lifelong member of the Clinton Lodge of Elks #1306. He loved skiing and playing golf, as well as rooting on his favorite New England teams, the Red Sox and the Patriots.

Jim’s family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston and in Milford, especially Dr. Alexandra Bailey and Elizabeth, in addition to the staff at Notre Dame Hospice, especially Gary Vacca and Colleen. The compassion, respect, kindness, and care they gave to Jim will always be remembered.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Jim’s family between 4:00 and 7:00 PM on Tuesday October 29, 2019 at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury, MA. Jim’s funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday October 30, 2019 at St. Mary’s Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury, MA, followed by burial at St. John’s Cemetery in Lancaster.
