Westborough – The Westborough Women’s Club presented a check for $500 to Westborough Youth & Family Services at the club’s Nov. 12 luncheon meeting. Accepting the check on behalf of WYFS was Director Cara Presley.
The donation was from a grant submitted by Marianne O’Connor, the club’s vice president and Presley to the Greater Federation of Women’s Club.
WYFS in partnership with the WWC will use the funds to design and distribute educational materials with facts about DV/SA (domestic violence/sexual abuse) and information about available resources in the town and the region.
“Everyone has been touched in one way or another by these issues,” Presley told the nearly 100 women in attendance at the meeting. “It affects women, men and members of the LGBT community. We need to chip away at the stigma.”
The plan, she said, is to use the $500 to hire someone to create flyers, postcards and other materials that will share information about resources available in the town and throughout the region. The materials will then be shared widely at a variety of places throughout Westborough.
The resource list will include contact info for WYFS, court advocates, hotlines and agencies that provide advocacy, shelter, and support.
“We have a lot of wonderful resources available,” Presley said. “We just need to let people know that they are available.”
