Police identify victim of Shrewsbury accident

Shrewsbury – TPolice identify victim of Shrewsbury accidenthe Shrewsbury Police Department released this statement this afternoon:

The Shrewsbury Police Department responded to Jordan Pond at Lakewood drive, for a motor vehicle that had crashed into the pond. First responders on scene were able to pull the nearly submerged car from the water and extricate one male occupant that was trapped inside. The lone male occupant Deven Jared Koenig (21) from North Grafton Ma. Was transported to UMass Medical by Umass Paramedics and a short time later died from his injuries.

Preliminary investigation determined the 2017 Nissan Altima failed to navigate a sharp turn in the road at the pond from Lakewood Avenue at Ridgeland road, slid sideways, struck a snowbank, became airborne and landed on its roof in the water. Upon arrival fire apparatus was able to quickly pull the vehicle from the water in order to gain access to the occupant. The first reporting party was on scene almost immediately following the crash called 911 and provided useful information to first responders. Shrewsbury Police Department accident Reconstructionist Sgt. Michael O’Connor and Officer Ryan Chartrand conducted an accident investigation while the road was shut down for approximately four hours. Detective Brian Thibodeau and Detectives assigned to the Worcester County Districts Attorney’s Office are assisting in the investigation.
