Winifred J. LuceyPhoenix, Ariz. – Winifred J. “Winnie” (Thompson) Lucey, 99, of Phoenix, Ariz. and formerly of Shrewsbury, died peacefully on Sunday December 8, 2019 in Phoenix.

Born and raised in Southbridge, Winnie was one of ten children born to the late Ralph and Grace (Barlow) Thompson. She was educated in Southbridge as well, graduating from high school in 1938. In 1954, she met and married the love of her life, the late Martin H. Lucey. The pair settled in Shrewsbury, where they raised their three wonderful children. Winnie began doing clerical work for Manpower, Inc., and as a temporary worker for many major corporations, including Norton Co., Thom McCann, and Westinghouse prior to that.

Winnie and her family enjoyed many happy moments at their summer cottage at Little Alum Pond in Brimfield, sharing fond memories of these times. She played the piano and organ for First Baptist Church in Southbridge and St. Mary’s in Shrewsbury, also teaching neighborhood children to play piano.

Winnie is survived by her children, Jane Thompson of Phoenix, AZ, Thomas Lucey of Shrewsbury, and Faith Fahlin and her husband Robert of New Hampshire; grandchildren, Heather Layton, Justin Thompson, Andy Lucey, Martin Lucey, Jacqueline Lucey, and Biance Fahlin; great-grandchildren, Sydney Layton, Ethan Layton, Emelia Mae Layton, Jeremiah Thompson, Jonathan Thompson, Collin Lucey, Violet Lucey, Dylan Lucey, Margaret Lucey, Samuel Lucey, and Hazel Fahlin; and dozens of nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Winnie was predeceased by all nine of her siblings, Earl, Pauline, Joyce, Roger, Stanley, Chester, Howard, Warren, and Gladys.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Winnie’s family between 10:00 and 11:00 AM on Monday December 16, 2019 at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury, MA followed by a prayer Service at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be with her husband, Martin, in Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
