Mary KocotHarwich Port – Mary (McBreen) Kocot, 88, of Harwich Port and formerly of Shrewsbury, died peacefully on Wednesday December 11, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.

Born and raised in Northampton, Mary was the daughter of the late Hiram and Mary (Keefe) McBreen. She was educated in Northampton as well, attending Northampton Public Schools and graduating from Smith College. She also attended Teacher’s College at Columbia University in New York City, going on to teach first grade in both Hartford, CT and Upper Darby, PA, which she enjoyed immensely; but nothing could compare to the joy she found in being a full-time mother to six children along with her devoted husband, Dr. Stanley L. Kocot.

In her spare time, Mary was extremely involved and took pride in her volunteer work at St. Mary’s in Shrewsbury and Holy Trinity in West Harwich, she was also active in Shrewsbury Ecumenical Council of Worcester County, the Greendale and Greater Worcester YMCAs, Guild of Our Lady of Providence, Mother’s Council of Notre Dame Academy and Saint John’s High School, as well as volunteering for Shrewsbury Public Schools, St. Vincent Hospital, and Saint Vincent De Paul and Family Pantry. When she wasn’t working or volunteering, Mary enjoyed cooking for her friends and family, swimming, yoga, and tennis.

In addition to her husband, Mary is survived by her beloved children, Nancy J. Kocot and her husband Paul Willis of San Leandro, CA, Susan Esposito of Bayonne, NJ, S. Lawrence Kocot and his wife Carol of Alexandria, VA, Kathy Kocot Grimaldi and her husband Donald of Worcester, and Mary Anne Joseph and her husband Richard N. Joseph, Jr. of Shrewsbury; and eight grandchildren, Alexandra, Michael, and Vanessa Esposito; Richie and Tyler Joseph; and Kaily, Kristy, and Thomas Kocot. Mary is predeceased by her parents and a son, the late Dr. Thomas G. Kocot; and two siblings, the late William McBreen and the late Barbara Matuszek.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Mary’s family between 4:00 and 8:00 PM on Friday December 13, 2019 at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury, MA, with a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday December 14, 2019 at St. Mary’s Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury, MA. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Shrewsbury.
