Shrewsbury – The Board of Selectmen signed off on a Massachusetts Development Finance Agency Memorandum of Agreement for a $25,000 MassDevelopment project budget for the Beal School Request for Proposals (RFP) process at its Dec. 10 meeting.
The memorandum states it is “for the purpose of assisting the Municipality in seeking a strategy and documents to prepare for the disposition of surplus property to promote job creation and economic development.”
“This is the RFP that we’ve been talking about for re-use of that building after the School Department moves [the school] into its new location on Lake Street,” remarked Board Chair Maurice DePalo.
Town Manager Kevin Mizikar noted that there is a clawback requirement as there are with all MassDevelopment grants which means funds given are required to be returned should the town sell the property as a result of this RFP process. The town will be required to return some or all of the funding, potentially up to 10 percent greater than the funding received depending on the sale price of the property.
The board approved the memorandum agreement.
