Westborough to hold hearing regarding polystyrene reduction

Westborough – The Westborough Board of Health will hold a public hearing Tuesday, Jan. 21, to solicit comments and feedback regarding a proposed Polystyrene Reduction Regulation in the town of Westborough. The meeting will start at 6 p.m. in Memorial Hall, located in Town Hall, 34 West Main St.

Per the proposed regulation food establishments in the town would be “prohibited from dispensing prepared foods in disposable food service containers made from expanded polystyrene. The violator shall receive: a) In the case of a first violation, the Director shall issue a written warning notice to the Food Establishment. b) In the case of a violation after a warning notice, the Director shall issue a notice of violation and impose the following fines: i. $50 for the second offense; ii. $100 for the third and all subsequent offenses. 2. No More than one (1) penalty shall be levied upon a Food Establishment within a seven (7) day period. 3. A Food Establishment shall have twenty one (21) days after the date of a violation notice to pay any fine.”
