Shrewsbury – Since the Thai & I Restaurant opened six months ago at its 274 South St., Shrewsbury location, it has already become a favorite for those who appreciate high quality authentic Thai food.

A proud family-owned business, it is overseen by Fawn Weydt, along with other local mothers.

The family brings to the restaurant a great deal of experience and in fact has several other restaurants – in Worcester (Thai Time, and Rice Violet) and West Boylston (Brown Rice Thai Cuisine).

Her mother Pat Rakkun was instrumental in helping to create the menus, Weydt said.

“She was a teacher in Thailand and responsible for the kids’ food,” Weydt said. “She is an excellent cook and gave me a lot of great recipes.”

Her mother still helps out a bit, as do other family members. Other local mothers help form the partnership in running the restaurants.

“Our chefs are very good at what they do,” Weydt said. “They have a great deal of experience working at other places including New York City. It’s important to them to offer quality food.”

“I am really proud of all of our staff. They like what they do and it shows in the service that we offer our customers.”

Many of the dishes are traditional ones often found in the southern part of Thailand, Weydt said and feature ingredients such as red and green chilies, pepper and basil. The menu is extensive offering everything from appetizers, soups, salads, main courses, combo plates and desserts. Featured entrees may have beef, chicken, pork, duck or seafood but there are also vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options as well.

The Shrewsbury location is warm and cozy, seating approximately 22 people. The restaurant does not offer alcohol but customers are invited to bring their own in to accompany their meals.

Since opening, customers have offered positive feedback, Weydt noted. Online reviews confirm that with many noting that the restaurant serves “some of the best Thai food they have ever tasted.”

“We have lots of high school kids who come in and love our food,” she added. “They post photos of their meals on Instagram!”

They also offer a thriving take out service and welcome online orders through their website www.ThaiandiShrewsbury.com. In the summer, the restaurant offers a takeout selection of ice cream.

For more information or to place an order call 508-762-4810 or 508-762-4814.  The restaurant is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.  It is located at 274 South St. near the intersection of Route 9 and South Street, across from the CVS.
