Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Special Needs/Special Olympics Basketball teams were busy practicing Jan. 28 at Sherwood Middle School, where they meet each Tuesday evening. The junior team (U-16) practices first and is followed by two adult teams which includes the Special Olympics USA Men’s Basketball team who brought home the silver medal from last year’s Special Olympics World Games held March 14-21 in Abu Dhabi.
The junior team is coached by Al Harrington and Dan McGuinness. Coach Harington remarked that the team of 24 is supported by peer partners who support the players.
“Tonight they are just practicing and their end games will be the first week of March when they have their competition,” noted Lisa Sundeen, Shrewsbury Parks & Recreation program assistant.
