Shrewsbury – Town Clerk Sandra Wright recently shared voter information as well as a timeline of important dates for those interested in running for elected town offices in the Annual Municipal Election which takes place Tuesday, May 5. The Annual Town Meeting will be held on Monday, May 18, at the Oak Middle School auditorium, 45 Oak St.
Nomination papers for the election are now available and can be accessed at the Town Clerk’s office at Town Hall, 100 Maple Ave. A minimum of 50 signatures of registered Shrewsbury voters are required for all positions other than Town Meeting member. New Town Meeting candidates must submit a nomination paper with a minimum of 10 signatures from registered Shrewsbury voters who reside in the candidate’s precinct.
Candidates for re-election to Town Meeting must file a written certificate with the Town Clerk by Tuesday, Feb. 25. Failure to do so will result in candidates needing to submit a nomination paper with the same requirements as a new Town Meeting member candidate.
Papers must be returned to the Town Clerk’s office by Tuesday, March 17, at 5 p.m.
Wright recommends that all candidates obtain more than the required number of signatures to ensure sufficient signatures are verifiable.
Should a candidate wish to withdraw from nomination they may do so through Thurs. April 2 at 5 p.m.
