Region – If we are honest, we would probably all admit to talking on our cellphones while driving or perhaps checking a text message, especially if stopped at a red light that seems to go on a bit too long.
But thanks to a new state law just implemented, operators of motor vehicles are prohibited from using a cell phone, unless the device is used in hands-free mode.
This is not to punish drivers, officials say – rather, it’s a way to help stop some of the many accidents caused by drivers who are a little too attached to their phones and not paying attention to their driving.
Penalties for not obeying this law could cost you up to $500 (plus an insurance surcharge for repeated offenses).
