Shrewsbury – Over the February vacation week, Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services (SYFS) hosted its popular “You Go Girl” program. According to SYFS Executive Director Christine Mowry, it is one of the organization’s longest standing social emotional development programs, helping to prepare girls for the changes and challenges of middle school and adolescence. Girls learn to build positive female relationships, self-esteem and leadership skills, she said, while learning to navigate changing relationships with peers and parents. The girls also learn healthy coping skills and decision making to become the best versions of themselves.

During one of the activities girls were encouraged to pick a topic that affected them or kids their age and create a billboard campaign about it. The project involved the girls coming up with reasons why this topic is so important or how it affects people either positively or negatively. The girls in the picture (Sawyer and Madison) chose “bullying” as their topic, which included “kindness always wins and bullying always loses” as their slogan.
