Region – Jan Cellucci, the former First Lady of Massachusetts, will be the keynote speaker at the first annual Gala for Love, to benefit the Mary Beth Benison Foundation Inc. (MBB), a nonprofit that provides financial assistance to patients with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

Cellucci’s husband Paul, the former governor of Massachusetts, died from ALS in 2013. Benison, well-known Northborough resident and former owner of CocoBeni Confections, passed away from the disease as well, in 2015.

The gala will be held Friday, April 3, at the AC Hotel by Marriott in Worcester.

Since Oct 2016, the MBB Foundation has issued more than 100 grants totaling $100,000 but the requests and need are increasing.

International ALS expert, Dr. Robert H. Brown Jr., will be honored with the MBB Award for Excellence. Brown is the Leo P. and Theresa M. LaChance Chair in Medical Research and chair of the Department of Neurology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) and UMass Memorial Medical Center. He is an internationally known researcher and physician leading the quest to cure neurodegenerative and neuromuscular diseases like ALS.
