Worcester – The St. John’s boys’ basketball team defeated Franklin 56-55 in the Central Mass. Division 1 championship game March 7, in a game played at Worcester State University.  St. John’s last won the Central Mass D1 title in 2016.

St. John’s sophomore T.J. Power kept his cool, and sunk two foul throws with 4.9 seconds remaining in the game to put the Pioneers ahead and close out the win.  The two closely matched teams battled throughout the night, each team taking turns holding on to slim leads.  Powers, along with teammate Lucas San Fratello, led the scoring with 16 points each.

The Pioneers, now 23-2, advance to the state semi-finals where they will face the West Division 1 champion.
