Westborough – As Women’s History Month is upon us, Westborough High’s Center Stage Theater Company prepares to perform Evita, a musical commemorating the life of Eva Perón, the Argentinian First Lady from the late ’40s. This show celebrates the rise to power of Perón and the work that she did for her people.

This production is also the first musical to be directed by Westborough High’s new theater teacher, Melinda Jaz.

“I think this is one of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most ambitious musicals and one I’ve been looking forward to directing for many years.  The story of Eva Peron fascinates me, as she is such an intensely adored and controversial figure in Argentina’s history.  She was a powerful leader at a time when women were expected to be silent; I feel her story is still incredibly relevant and moving. The students have been working incredibly hard to tell her story,” said Jaz.

Junior Luke Capello, who plays the narrator of the show, is especially excited to share this story with the community.

“We’ve all been working rigorously for three months now,” he said. “That hard work will certainly pay off for an absolutely beautiful show… It will definitely be something you won’t want to miss.”

He believes that this may be one of the largest productions Westborough High has ever put on.

Junior Madilyn Richards, another cast member, commented, “I’m super excited because Evita is a beautiful show. It’s a nice contrast to shows we’ve done in the past.”

Last year, Center Stage put on “The Drowsy Chaperone” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” both of which greatly impressed audience members. However, Evita is different because it’s based on real historical events.

The show will be performed in Westborough High School’s auditorium on Friday, March 13 at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 14 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and March 15 at 2 p.m.  Tickets will be $10 for Westborough High students and $12 for other audience members
