Coronavirus disease is affecting all of us. When you read this, we will be in a surge of the pandemic in Massachusetts. Let’s be real: this sucks. It just sucks.

Has real estate stopped? Real estate continues every day. COVID-19 is forcing agents and companies to shake decades of standard practices and reinvent parts of the process. This is ultimately good as waste will be driven out. Weak companies and agents will have to evolve or perish.

It’s an evolving new normal

We are at the forefront of this evolution, building on our expertise in working remotely.

We can meet with clients electronically (all RE/MAX agents have Zoom web conferencing accounts). It’s a bit different than “in the flesh” obviously, but we can still walk through a house with a client using Zoom on a phone!

Need to prep a home for sale? We can do a virtual meeting with our stager and give specific recommendations. This is something many sellers are doing while we have distancing guidelines.

We can do virtual showings. This past weekend we did a virtual open house, walking a buyer through the home with a cell phone.

Of course, buying a house generally a visceral experience. After viewing virtual tours, pictures and floor plans…. a buyer will often want to see a house. We can do this with social distancing and employing great hygiene.

We use a system called DotLoop for electronic signature, so all signing can be done remotely (you must have an email). Signing can be for listing paperwork, disclosures (real estate never met a disclosure it didn’t like), offers, etc.

We can even present offers remotely!

Some parts of moving still require people in your home. Items like fire department smoke/CO detector inspections, packing, movers, cleaning, etc. We will work with these people to ensure strict safety precautions are followed. If you have an at-risk party in your home, we can work with you so they can be out of the home.

We’re not medical people or scientists; we are following rapidly emerging protocols from the Realtor community. If in doubt we need to listen to YOUR medical professional.

We are not impervious to this disease and are doing everything we can to continue helping people buy and sell homes safely. We are listed as “essential” with the federal government, and want to protect our clients, ourselves and all our families.

We will get through this together and will be stronger and more effective as a result.

I’m not a huge fan of Zillow, etc. for buyers.  Here is an app tied directly to the MLS: www.homesnap.com/Gary-Kelley
