Northborough/Southborough – On April 7 Northborough/Southborough Schools Superintendent Greg Martineau reached out via email to all parents and faculty in the District to participate in a survey on whether or not to keep April vacation. The options were to either continue remote learning through the previously scheduled April break and end the school year on Tuesday, June 16 or to keep April break as is and end the school year on Monday, June 22. The results of the survey were overwhelmingly in favor of canceling April break. These results were discussed at the District Combined School Committee meeting on April 9 and the committee voted to cancel April Vacation and conduct remote learning from Tuesday, April 21 through Friday, April 24 (the District will be closed on Monday, April 20 in observance of Patriots Day).

Martineau stated, “This decision reflects a desire to maintain the continuity of remote learning for students and prepares for the possibility that in-person schooling may be suspended beyond Monday, May 4, the current end date of school closures in Massachusetts.”

Martineau also noted that the early feedback regarding the new remote learning plan NSBORO-CONNECT 2.0, which launched on April 6, has been positive. However, there was also feedback that included suggestions for improving and fine tuning the plan, which the District will be reviewing and adjusting accordingly early next week. He acknowledged the excellent work of the District leaders, faculty, and staff for their preparation of NSBORO-CONNECT 2.0 and encouraged families to reach out to their teachers and building principals if they feel that modifications are necessary for their children to be successful in this unprecedented situation.

He concluded, “What continues to be evident is that the District’s greatest strength is our strong community and the way in which we connect and support one another. Educators and families will continue to work together on behalf of our students.”
