Northborough – Marjorie M. Ferguson, 98, formerly of Bradley Road, New Hartford, NY passed away on May 26, 2020 from complications of Covid-19. She had been living in Beaumont at Northborough in Massachusetts.

Born on May 10, 1922 in Waterbury, CT, Marge was the third child and second daughter of John Mariner and Veronica (Kelly) Mariner. She married Edward B. Ferguson on December 27, 1945.

Marge loved learning and helping others to share that love of learning. She was graduated from Crosby High School in Waterbury and attended Central Connecticut State College and Syracuse University, graduating with a BA in education. She taught a generation of children at Wetmore Elementary School in East Utica, NY. After her retirement from teaching, she proctored New York State licensing exams in Utica.

Marge was as dedicated to her family as to her teaching. She loved having Thanksgiving dinner each year with her family gathered around the table. She always made time to frost cupcakes, to make Christmas cookies—some years starting as early as November—and to be there to cheer her children on whether in the statewide spelling bee or on the sports field. Her grandchildren loved coming to her house where there were always bubbles to blow and projects to make.

Marge is survived by her three children and their spouses: Dorothea Schryver of Scottsdale, AZ; William and Jo Ann Ferguson of Fruitland Park, FL; Richard and Cathleen Ferguson of Mamaroneck, NY. In addition, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren: Laura Ferguson; Peter Ferguson and wife Meghan; Marianne Ferguson; Kaitlyn Ferguson; Shane Ferguson and wife Dr. Kim Farrell; and Connor Ferguson. Her husband, Edward, died December 31, 1993. Her siblings, Catherine Wrenn, John, Howard, Dorothy Palowski and Raymond, also predeceased her.

Projects she could work on alone and with others were always Marge’s favorites. She was skilled with a paintbrush, learning to tole paint. Her counted cross-stitch creations, which she shared with friends and her children, have become treasured pieces. For years, she belonged to a bowling league with fellow teachers. She will be deeply missed by all who have been blessed to know her.

Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Utica, NY. A private memorial service will be held at a future date at St. John’s the Evangelist Church in New Hartford, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that those wishing to honor Marge’s memory make a donation to the American Heart Association.
