Shrewsbury library resumes limited service and town playgrounds reopen under phase 2
The Shrewsbury Public Library

Shrewsbury – The latest reported case of coronavirus was reported over a week ago in Shrewsbury. On June 6 one additional positive case reported bringing the total to 310. In light of this, the Shrewsbury Public Library is resuming limited services and playgrounds and basketball courts are reopening under provisions of Phase 2 of the state’s reopening plan. However, town buildings will remain closed at least through June 19.

Town Manager Kevin Mizikar issued a press release on June 12 that stated: “Town staff is working on a process for residents seeking to conduct in-person business in town buildings that will be issued in the future.  In the meantime, staff is available from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to answer phone calls or email inquiries from the public.”

The Shrewsbury Public Library has resumed partial services. Patrons are now able to return checked out items between the hours of 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Curbside pick-up will begin on June 16. Patrons can place holds on materials through the CWMARS system that will be available for curbside pick-up and can book appointments for pick-up on the Library website https://shrewsburyma.gov/344/Library.

Mizikar’s press release also said: “Under Phase 2, town and school playgrounds, basketball courts at parks, and restrooms at Dean Park have reopened.  Permits can be issued to Shrewsbury sports organizations for practices in groups of ten and must adhere to state guidelines. Start dates vary by league. There are no games and scrimmages allowed under Phase 2.”

Meals on Wheels will continue to operate through the Council on Aging at this time, but may be subject to change. Transportation services through the Senior Center have also resumed on a reduced service basis.  Contact the COA at 508-841-8640 for more details.
