Open Letter to the Westborough CommunityTo the Editor:

As we reflect upon the brutal events of the past months and years, we are heartbroken by the suffering and atrocities that members of the Black community have endured. We, the undersigned Trustees, and staff of the Westborough Public Library, stand against systemic racism and racist  violence. We believe that Black lives matter.  We stand with those who condemn racism, those who work for racial justice and those who exercise their first amendment right to peacefully protest these injustices.

It is the role of a library to provide resources and services in a variety of media to meet the needs of individuals and groups for education, information, and personal development. As a public service institution, we owe it to our community to address inequities that exist within our collection. We are committed to using our position to help those seeking knowledge on these subjects to find understanding. The Westborough Public Library affirms its’ commitment to provide the greater Westborough community with a diverse collection of physical and online materials.  Recent events have guided us to evaluate and expand our collections with added emphasis on antiracist books and media to meet the changing needs of our patrons. This is an ongoing and evolving process at the library. We are always open to suggestions to help meet your needs.

We encourage you to use the resources and materials the Westborough Public Library has to offer as a tool to strengthen your personal understanding of the world we live in today.
