Shrewsbury – Boston 25 Morning News will feature Shrewsbury in their next Zip Trip this Friday, July 24. Shrewsbury is one of eight Zip Trip stops in the station’s scaled back summer schedule and modified format (Mini Zip Trips) due to COVID-19.

The news station has found a way to continue this summer staple which is now in its 17th year. (In previous years their team, including their popular on-air reporters, have visited Marlborough and Westborough). Rather than an “onsite live audience” event, the “Mini Zip Trips will be a mix of pre-taped features and interviews that spotlight community pride, local parks and attractions, good eats and recognize frontline workers and hometown heroes,” according to the Boston 25 News website.

A film crew was in town on July 9 and spoke with Assistant Town Manager Kristen Las. Places that they were interested in filming included the Town Center, Dean Park and the Burns Bridge. Las was interviewed in front of Town Hall.

“We covered a little bit of the history of the town, general demographics, how Town Hall is handling COVID with appointments only…,” Las shared. “We talked about our rich culture of civic engagement with Town Meeting…”

She also referenced the Shrewsbury Town Center Association and the Lakeway Business District.

She noted that the town was contacted earlier this year by Boston 25 Morning News who said they were interested in scheduling their live event in Shrewsbury on July 10. But when COVID-19 hit it was uncertain until about a month ago they called and said that they would be able to do some pre-recorded interviews and would be airing on the segment on Friday morning, July 24.

“We’re very grateful that they chose to come to Shrewsbury to showcase us and that they decided to still air the show even though it’s in a different circumstance,” Las said.
