Roland J. ChartrandHudson – Roland “Rolly” J. Chartrand, 82, of Hudson, MA, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 17, 2020 at Emerson Hospital. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 57 Years, Lilith “Pat” E. (Brown) Chartrand.

Roland was born in Fitchburg, MA on September 25, 1937, a son of the late Joseph H. and Bertha (Leblanc) Chartrand. He moved to Hudson as a child with his family and was a standout athlete, serving as the captain of the soccer, baseball, and hockey teams at Hudson High School. He was later inducted into The Hudson High School Hall of Fame for his athleticism. He graduated in the class of 1955 and subsequently attended Leicester Junior College and American International College.

On September 11, 1957, Roland enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and honorably served until September 9, 1960, earning the Rank of Lance Corporal. After finishing his service, he began a long and successful career as a Sales Representative for Ideal Roller Company and later NENSCO selling printing products. After retiring Roland continued working as a parts delivery driver for NAPA Auto Parts.

A longtime Hudson resident, Roland was a member of the Hudson Elks and former altar boy at Saint Michael Parish. His passion for sports continued past his playing days and he served as a youth sports hockey referee and coach for over thirty years. He was also an avid golfer and former member of Berlin Country Club. Roland enjoyed spending time with is family and traveling to his trailer home in Ocean Park, ME.

In addition to his beloved wife, Lilith “Pat” E. (Brown) Chartrand, he was also survived by his 4 children, Michael E. Chartrand and his wife Susan of Hudson, Lynn A. Trudel of Hudson, Peter J. Chartrand and his wife Jane of Hudson and Tracy L. Chartrand of Hudson; a brother, George Chartrand and his wife Patricia of Florida; a sister, Dorothy “Dot” Shepheard of Florida; 9 grandchildren, Nathaniel Chartrand, Kaeleigh Hawes and her husband Nicholas, Zachary Chartrand, Michael Chartrand, Gabriel Chartrand, Danielle Trudel, Amanda Trudel, Michael Trudel, Jr. and Lucy O’Hearn and 1 great-grandchild, Molly Jean Hawes.

A period of visitation will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2020 from 9:30 am until 11:30 am at TIGHE HAMILTON REGIONAL FUNERAL HOME, 50 Central St., Hudson MA; immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 11:30 am in the funeral home and procession to Forestvale Cemetery for interment.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in loving memory of Roland J. Chartrand to Dana Farber Cancer Research.
