Shrewsbury – With events large and small being cancelled due to the pandemic, in Shrewsbury, the Shrewsbury Town Center Association (STCA) intends to go forward with the second annual Light the Common on Saturday, Dec. 5.

The Shrewsbury Town Center Association (STCA) is planning something spectacular this year because the feeling is that it is needed now more than ever. To make sure it is a success, the STCA is asking for the community’s help.

“We felt that the added light display this year will be so needed given the experience we have all shared these past five months,” said STCA Chair Maribeth Lynch. “Bringing light to what could be a dark season will hopefully brighten our community’s spirit and add joy to the season. Last year was our inaugural event, and was met with overwhelming community support.”

The Shrewsbury Federal Credit Union stepped up last year as the Light the Common sponsor, and they have agreed to be a major sponsor this year. However, the STCA is still looking to raise an additional $17,000 for the event.

Committee member Lee Abdella, who is spearheading this initiative, said that in order to meet their goal, they are seeking 1,700 people to donate a modest $10 by Tuesday, Sept. 1. So far, they have raised roughly $2,500.

Contributions are tax deductible. For more information and to donate, visit www.shrewsburytca.com/light-the-common-2020.
