Casavant to serve as selectman delegate on Shrewsbury’s new diversity task force

Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Board of Selectmen discussed the need to appoint one of their own to the newly created Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force at its Aug. 25 meeting.

They recently issued a call for applicants which are being compiled by the Town Manager’s Office.

Board Chair Beth Casavant shared that there were already quite a few who have expressed an interest in serving.

“Before we go any further, I would just like to say that I am very interested in serving in this role as our delegate from this board,” she remarked. “But of course, I respect that this was something that Mr. [John] Lebeaux had brought before the board and would want to make sure that the entire board was comfortable. I didn’t want to step on any toes, but I do want to express my interest.”

“I claim no ownership to this at all. I honestly don’t know if my work schedule would allow me to properly do what I needed to do on this,” replied Lebeaux.

Selectman Maurice DePalo said he thought she would make an excellent delegate and made a motion to appoint her. This was seconded and unanimously approved.

Casavant thanked her colleagues, noting that she has been educating herself on the issues not only in Shrewsbury but in the broader community.

Applications for the Task Force are being accepted through Tuesday, Sept. 15. For more information, visit https://shrewsburyma.gov.
