Offering outstanding customer service at one of the state’s oldest mutual community banks

By Bonnie Adams, Managing Editor

Region – The coronavirus pandemic has changed many of the ways we live our lives nowadays; how we shop, how we dine and even how we bank.

But for Clinton Savings Bank, established in 1851 and among the oldest mutual community banks in Massachusetts, one thing remains certain, outstanding customer service. CSB customers trust the Bank for not just a transactional relationship, but for solid banking advice and all-encompassing customer care.

In times like these, when so many things are uncertain, customers want to be assured that their assets are in a stable institution, and that they can access their accounts at any time. They also want to be able to talk in-person to a Relationship Banker and get the answers they need quickly and efficiently.

Even at the high-point of the pandemic, Clinton Savings Bank did more than most financial institutions to keep their customers (and their employees) healthy while making sure that customer service never skipped a beat! They sent several emails to their customers keeping them informed on how they could conduct their banking. Their drive-ups remained opened and staffed and they offered by-appointment in-person meetings for their customers in all of the branch lobbies.

And as the pandemic started to show signs of weakening its grip on Massachusetts, CSB followed the state and local guidelines by developing a phased branch re-opening. The lobbies are now adorned with plexiglass shields at each teller station, floor decals display proper social distance, hand sanitizer stations, and limiting the amount of customers in the lobby at any one time. Their employees also regularly sanitize “high touch” areas of the bank and take more short breaks to wash their hands regularly. Keeping customers and employees safe is CSB’s top priority.

Further, CSB recognized the need to heighten the education of their suite of online and mobile banking tools such as the ability to open checking or savings accounts and apply for auto, home equity and mortgage loans from anywhere at any time. Many customers are more comfortable with online applications and CSB wants them to have an experience that’s safe and easy!

Clinton Savings Bank is not only committed to the highest degree of professionalism for their customers but also to the communities it serves so proudly. Countless residents and organizations have benefitted from the Bank’s charitable endeavors over the years and decades.

The Bank is also committed to helping the next generation of consumers learn about financial literacy. Clinton Savings Bank has two full service branches that are inside of  Nashoba Regional High School and Tahanto Regional Middle/High School. The students who work at these in-school branches gain valuable job skills by serving as tellers and learning about confidentiality, professionalism, behavior in a business environment, and the importance of good communication skills. Students also receive financial education training during the school year from CSB. These programs are often integrated with the school’s financial education activities, money management courses, and (particularly for older children) career development. The Bank’s curriculum provides a unique hands-on way for young people to learn about taking control of their money and financial future. They also sponsor Banzai, an online financial literacy program for teachers in the Clinton, Tahanto and West Boylston middle school systems. And for the youngest customers there are several different accounts designed to teach them about the importance of saving.
