Marlborough – This year, the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce joins with the Marlborough Rotary Club for its 10th annual recycling event Saturday, Sept. 26, and Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m.to 2 p.m. at the Navin Rink Parking Lot, 451 Bolton St., Marlborough. The cost is $40 per car/truck load and the event is open to all for recycling of all unwanted computers, electronics, appliances, and more.  The event is focused on recycling household items rather than adding these items in the landfills.

Accepted items include electronics of all types; all electrical equipment; vehicle batteries; large appliances; yard and lawn equipment; televisions ($50 any size); computer monitors ($30 each); audio speakers ($20 per pair); and child car seats ($20 each with fabric removed).

Items that are not accepted include wood, plastic, tires, mattresses, textiles, hoses, glass, pool liners or large children’s plastic toys.

“We have been so excited about this event!” remarked Elaine McDonald, who started the event in 2011.  “We are doubly excited that this year, the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce has joined us in this project to help our neighbors clean out their unwanted items.”

According to Rob Schachter, chamber president, the event has a dual purpose of helping the environment and fundraising for a good cause.

“This project benefits everyone involved and promotes recycling for a very low cost,” Schachter said. “We are delighted to join with the Rotary Club’s long successful event. It benefits our environment and the Marlborough Rotary Club Foundation will generate a percentage of the fees to continue the club’s service to children and families of our community, literacy projects, polio eradication, and more.”

Added McDonald: “The environmental impact keeps growing year after year. As of our 2019 recycling event, we have recycled over 75,000 pounds – or more than 37 tons! That’s huge!”
