Shrewsbury’s ‘Scarecrows on the Common’ to honor essential workersShrewsbury – For the past 15 years, the Shrewsbury Garden Club has sponsored its popular “Scarecrows on the Common,” as part of the town’s Spirit of Shrewsbury Fall Festival. Residents are invited to enter a decorated scarecrow that is then displayed on the Shrewsbury Town Common.

For this year’s event, the club is still planning on holding the event, from Thursday, Oct. 1 to Sunday, Oct. 25, but with a special twist.

“This year a theme of ‘Honoring Essential Workers’ was established to show support and appreciation for all the front line workers who have been there for the rest of us during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic,” the club said in a press release. “Scarecrows will be socially distancing and are required to be masked.”
