Shrewsbury – On Oct. 3, a picture perfect autumn day, Melanie Magee and Nancy Nelson were among the many who stopped by Shrewsbury Town Hall to pick up supplies for the Town Clean Up Day held in conjunction with the Great Massachusetts Clean Up event. T-shirts, compliments of Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations (SELCO,) were also available.

The annual event is usually held in April but was postponed this year due to COVID-19.

Kevin Esposito, division manager of parks, cemetery and grounds, said the roughly 80 participants had signed up in advance and claimed a location to pick up garbage.

The deadline for clean-up was 12 p.m. so that DPW staff could then collect the garbage.

“Our main goal is to ‘Keep Shrewsbury Beautiful,’” he said. “We will provide bags and pickup for anyone who wishes to clean a street or area, at any time.”
