Northborough DPW updates shared at Selectmen’s meetingNorthborough  – Department of Public Works Director Scott Charpentier summarized the findings and action being taken on recent resident traffic concerns and questions at the Nov. 9 Board of Selectmen’s meeting.

The CSX construction work on Main Street is taking longer than anticipated due to Eversource having a problematic gas main that runs underneath the railroad trucks. Eversource received a permit to install a new pipe, but encountered a buried obstruction and is waiting for redesign approval from CSX, which is still pending. At this point, the work will stop for this year, the site will be cleaned up and restarted in the spring.

Pedestrian safety is a concern of residents at the corner of Route 20 and Maple Street. A written request has been made to the MassDOT to allow installation of pedestrian activated crosswalk lights, since Route 20 is a state highway and is controlled by MassDOT. A similar light will be installed on South Street near Northgate Road.
