Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Cultural Council has set a deadline for organizations, schools, and individuals to apply for grants that support a range of cultural activities; including exhibits, festivals, field trips, workshops, lectures, short-term artist residencies and performances.  Last year, the council distributed about $13,100 in grants.  Applications for this year’s cycle should be submitted online by Monday, Dec. 14 at https://www.mass-culture.org and clicking on “Applicants.”

The Shrewsbury Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural Councils serving all 351 cities and towns in the commonwealth. The LCC Program is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, supporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences and humanities every year. The state legislature provides an annual appropriation to the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency, which then allocates funds to each community.

Previously funded projects include: Worcester Chamber Music Society, Fitchburg Art Museum, author visits by April Jones Prince for Spring Street School, and United Sound program for Shrewsbury Music Department.

Shrewsbury Cultural Council members for 2020-2021 are: Chair, Neena Mohanka;  Brian Clark, Kalaimangai Saravanan, Shiwen Chen, Sandra A.Weed and Sarah Lividini.
