Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Historical Society is hosting the virtual presentation, “Popular Music of the Gaslight Era” by vocalist and multi-instrumentalist John Root. This virtual program and taped rebroadcast will be presented on Wednesday, Dec. 16 at 7:00 p.m. on Shrewsbury Channels 28 and 328 and shrewsburymediaconnection.org.
The program features a diverse repertoire of musical styles from the turn of the previous century. The lyrics offer insight into the customs and values of American popular culture at the turn of the previous century. Audiences also learn how our country’s multicultural diversity created unique musical styles that continue to delight and inspire audiences around the world.
Root’s programs feature popular music from the first half of the twentieth century. Since 1977, Root has performed for audiences of all ages at libraries, historical societies, schools, senior centers, long-term care residences and other venues throughout New England.
