John W.D. ChaseUpton – Major John W.D. Chase, 65, of Upton, passed away peacefully at Rose Monahan Hospice, Worcester, on Dec. 12, 2020 after a year’s battle with cancer.

John was predeceased by his father, Donald A. Chase, and brother, Richard (Ricky) Chase. He is survived by his mother, Penny Downey of Northborough; brother Michael J. Chase of Laconia, N.H.; and brother Randall C. Chase and his wife Susan Barba and their children Samantha and Alex Chase, all of Upton, He is also survived by his stepsisters, Charlene Bates and Beverly Hanson of Florida and Mary Alice Baldelli of South Carolina, along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

John joined the Army after graduating high school from Bacon Academy in Colchester, Conn. and served in Germany. He joined the National Guard and attended Officers Candidate School in Austin, Texas, graduating as a 2nd Lieutenant. He served in Texas and New Hampshire and finished his career as a Major in Whitinsville.

John was kind, and fun-loving. H enjoyed camping, photography, progressive music, fire-pits and double IPAs and leaves behind many life-long friends.

Services and burial will be private at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. A memorial celebration of his life will be held by his family at a future date. Roney Funeral Home in North Grafton assisted the family with arrangements.
