Westborough – At age 103, Nancy Colonero has no doubt seen and experienced so much in her life. And recently the centenarian experienced another significant milestone – becoming the first resident at SALMON Health and Retirement’s Beaumont at Westborough campus to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

On Dec. 28, residents and staff received their first round of the FDA-approved Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, with additional clinics scheduled to be held at SALMON’s other communities throughout the week.

Out of approximately 200 staff members and 123 residents, CVS Health administered the vaccine to 80 percent of staff members and 95 percent of residents, according to a press release from SALMON.

As the first resident receiving the vaccine, Mrs. Colonero said it was a “privilege.”

CNA Julio Bercian was the first staff member to receive the vaccine, raising his hand in joy afterwards.

“I had no hesitations about it,’ he said. “I wanted to receive the vaccine as soon as I heard about it.”

Matt Salmon, the CEO of SALMON Health and Retirement said it was “a historic day for our organization and most importantly, for our dedicated staff and residents. We have remained resilient and steadfast in caring for our residents and dealing with this pandemic.”

The second round of COVID-19 vaccines are tentatively scheduled in the coming months.
