Brian J. MaraMarlborough – Brian James Mara, age 39, of Marlborough, passed away peacefully Jan. 4, 2021, surrounded by family, after a period of declining health. Brian was born in Waltham and moved to Marlborough at a young age. He attended Marlborough Public Schools and dominated many local sports programs in his youth.

Brian’s childhood consisted of playing baseball, football, basketball, bowling and skiing. He enjoyed family trips to Disney, vacations in Maine, ski trips throughout New England and spending time with his cousins and friends.

Brian touched everyone he met with his positive energy; spreading cheer, laughter, his contagious smile, and his knack for enjoying life everywhere he went; all this while enduring daily battles with Crohn’s Disease. He loved listening to Prince, reading Hunter S. Thompson novels and watching Bruce Lee movies. He often claimed he could take on a mountain lion with his bare hands if the need ever arose. Fortunately for the local New England mountain lion population, he never stumbled across an opportunity to prove himself right. He loved dancing and would often be seen moonwalking, breakdancing or gliding across the floor as a captivated audience gathered around him. He was a true original. His boldness, effortless charisma and lust for life lives on in everyone who was lucky enough to have known him.

Brian is survived by his partner in life, Taryn Field of Marlborough, and their beloved dog, Hazel; his parents, Chris and Karen (Heffron) Bartlett of Milford and Kevin and Diane Mara of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; his grandmother, Janet Mara of Hudson; his brothers, Jeff Mara and his wife Erin of Shrewsbury and Scott Mara and his partner Holly of Hudson; and his step brothers, John Hubbard of Boston and Paul Hubbard and his wife Deb of Clinton. His memory lives on in the hearts of his many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. Brian loved spending time with his godsons, Travis and Remy, as well as Elijah, Hayden, Peyton, Jace and Brody. Brian was predeceased by his grandparents, Shirley and Leo Heffron of Waltham, and George Mara of Waltham.

Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, services will be private at this time.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Brian’s memory to the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation National Headquarters, ATTN: Financial Operations, 733 Third Ave., Suite 510, New York, NY 10017 or www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org and Boston Children’s Hospital, 401 Park Drive, Suite 602, Boston, MA 02215 or www.bostonchildrens.org/givenow.
