Marilyn L. Neilsen, Berlin – Marilyn L. Neilsen, 84, of Berlin, MA, formerly of Hudson and 50 years in Marlborough, died Jan. 5, 2021.

Born in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late William Traverse and Ebba (Wettergreen) Traverse. Marilyn and her late husband George, who died in 2016, enjoyed 61 years together and celebrated their 60th anniversary with a surprise party.

She had been employed as an administrative secretary at John Hancock Insurance Company in Boston and achieved numerous awards for her perfect handwriting.

For over 20 years Marilyn accompanied and assisted her late husband George in his many roles in the Lions Club, where they made many lifelong friendships.

Marilyn loved being a mom… it was her calling.. She also loved raising her many dogs and helping animals over the years.

She is survived by two daughters, Jeanette Renaud and her husband Stephen of North Brookfield, along with two wonderful grandsons, Kevin Renaud of Spencer and Chuck Renaud of North Brookfield, and daughter Karen Neilsen and significant other David Brennan of Berlin, and adoring dog Kase. She is also survived by her loving brother, William Traverse Jr. and his wife (Dr.) Lucy in Berlin, Conn. She was also the sister of the late Gertrude, Mary, Grace, and Dorothy. Marilyn also leaves her godson, Paul Fiorenza and his wife Shary, Robin and Doug MacDonald, Lee Fiorenza, Barry Fiorenza and his wife Kathy, Al Fiorenza, the Trites, Debbie Imonte, and Diana and Darlene (Foley) and Dorothy and Dennis Kelley and family.

We hope in this time of need that you always help one another and be kind, as our mother was to everyone.

Visiting hours will be held Monday, Jan. 11, from 9:45 – 10:30 a.m., at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Wilson Street, Marlborough.
