Gloria A. DeAngelisShrewsbury – Gloria A. (Caramello) DeAngelis, 88, longtime Shrewsbury resident, passed away peacefully Jan. 6, 2021 at UMass Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Laura (Campanelli) Caramello and the beloved wife of the late Salvatore J. “Sal” DeAngelis, who passed in 2005 after 47 wonderful years of marriage.

Gloria leaves her loving daughters, Donna M. DeAngelis and Lori A. Rupolo and her husband Michael J. Rupolo Sr., all of Shrewsbury; her grandson, Michael J. Rupolo Jr. and his wife Kristen of Shrewsbury; her brother, Anthony Caramello Jr. and his wife Patty Ann of Worcester; and her sister, Barbara Husson of Westborough; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters Maria “Jo” Dagostino and Beatrice Strozina.

Born and raised in Worcester, Gloria was educated in the Worcester Public Schools, and attended secretarial school. She met her beloved Sal while he was buying a vehicle at Gallo Oldsmobile, they dated, fell in love and married. They eventually made their home in Shrewsbury where they raised their family. Gloria enjoyed being a stay-at-home Mom when her daughters were small, but later went back to work; first at Hahnemann Hospital and then onto Memorial Hospital, from which she retired.

In her free time Gloria enjoyed gardening. The neighbors enjoyed the spring when her beautifully crafted planters started to appear in her yard. She loved ceramics and arts & crafts. Her taste in music was diverse – from the Italian classics to the crooners to Il Divo. She was even influenced by her daughters’ playlists but the minute Il Divo came to town, she dropped everything for a seat close to the stage! Known for her cooking, especially “gravy” and meatballs, family and friends planned their visits around mealtime. Gloria was a faithful communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Shrewsbury for many years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014 (www.michaeljfox.org/donate).

Gloria’s funeral Mass and burial will be held privately, due to current COVID-19 restrictions. The Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home is honored to be assisting with arrangements.
