Alice D. HillPutnam, Conn. – Alice D. (O’Neil) Hill, of Putnam, Conn., formerly of Southbridge and Northborough, passed away peacefully Jan. 19, 2021, at 98 years of age. She was the devoted wife to Thomas Hill until his passing in 2000.

Born in Milton, Alice was the daughter to the late John J. and Lucinda (Kain) O’Neil. She was raised in Quincy and was a 1940 graduate of Quincy High School. Alice and Tom resided in Southbridge for 40 years before moving to Yarmouth, Maine. In 1999, the couple relocated to Northborough and in 2016, Alice moved to Putnam to be closer to her beloved family.

Alice dedicated her life to caring for her home and raising her six children. She was an avid reader and loved to shop. She found immense pleasure in making her house a welcoming home filled with love for everyone. She looked forward to hosting the holiday get-togethers to celebrate with family and friends.

Alice’s apple pies and pumpkin bread were always a favorite treat of everyone. Her family will always remember how her pies were the prized Yankee swap gift at Christmas time! One of the most precious joys in her life was having her children and grandchildren spend summers with her in Maine enjoying the beach.

Alice is survived by her son, James Hill and his wife Lily of Camden, Maine; three daughters, Marcia Hill Papagni of Webster, Cynthia Hill Giroux and her husband Gyro of Webster; and Kathleen Hill Elliott and her husband Bruce of Putnam. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored, and one sister, Beverly Dean of Carson City, Nev., along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Tom, Alice was preceded in death by two sons, John and Richard Hill, and a sister, Rita Worth.

The Hill family would like to thank the caring staff of Wing C at Matulaitis Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Putnam for the loving support that they provided to Alice during her stay.
