Algonquin holds off Shrewsbury in boys basketball

Northborough  – The Algonquin Regional High School boys basketball team opened their season with a 63-53 win over Shrewsbury in a game played Jan. 22.

Algonquin ran up an impressive 23-9 lead in the first quarter only to have Shrewsbury rally back and tie the game 29-29 at halftime. After trailing for much of the second half, Algonquin’s offense kicked into high gear in the final minutes to seal the win.

Following current COVID-19 protocols, the game was played in an empty gym without any fans present.
