Marlborough – Phyllis A. Vigeant died peacefully at her home Jan. 21, 2021. She was 86. Phyllis was born in Marlborough, the eldest child of Irene (Delorme) and Philip Bergeron.
She married her childhood sweetheart Ralph Vigeant in 1955 and after a year in Germany, settled in Marlborough where they raised their seven children.
Phyllis graduated from St. Anne’s Academy where she thrived in academics. While she and Ralph were courting, she worked as a secretary for a local shoe factory.
A devout Catholic parishioner at St. Mary’s and St. Bernadette’s, she spent many years as a professional cantor in addition to working as a soloist for weddings and funerals. She sang like an angel.
Phyllis volunteered with countless youth groups where she could also be involved in her children’s lives. She was a Girl Scout and CYO leader, sang in amateur community choirs, and more than anything loved singing around a piano with friends and family.
Phyllis had a true partnership with her husband that extended over into their financial dealings as well. She possessed sterling business acumen and was an integral part of decision making, a great force behind the scenes at all times.
Phyllis enjoyed countless times at the lake house in Maine, either with friends and family or alone to soak in the serenity. In her later years, she wintered in Florida where she continued to be involved in music as well as the Red Hat Society.
An accomplished cook with a broad and passionate palate, Phyllis possessed the ability to feed a large number of people generously. It is believed that her famous pecan rolls and blueberry muffins would help bring about world peace someday.
Phyllis was an extremely caring and nurturing parent. Throughout her life, she took great joy in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each has been treated to a musical serenade of “I Just Called to Say Love You” from Meme. It is a testament to her devotion and interest in all of their lives that during her last few hours, she was treated to zoom call with over 29 of her progeny present.
Phyllis is survived by her loving children and their spouses, Michelle Bouffard-Gebo (Steve Fournier), Phillip (Rhonda) Vigeant, Noella Vigeant, Lisa (Ken) Anderson, (Kevin Gough), Nicole (David Judd) Vigeant, and Paulette (Mike) Heim, as well as her siblings, Albert (MaryPat) Bergeron, George (Paulette) Bergeron, Elaine Mongeau, Marie-Anne (Robert) Seymour, Arthur (Patricia) Bergeron; 18 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Ralph, and her devoted daughter, Jeanne (Gough).
